GCSE Further Maths and Additional Maths are optional qualifications taken by high-achieving GCSE students, typically in Year 10 or 11, as a bridge to A Level Mathematics. There are two main qualifications:
- AQA Level 2 Certificate in Further Mathematics (8365) — a standalone qualification graded 1–5 with a grade 5 equivalent. Two papers (1 hour each): Paper 1 non-calculator, Paper 2 calculator.
- OCR FSMQ Additional Mathematics (6993) — a Free Standing Mathematics Qualification at Level 3. One 2-hour calculator paper. Content bridges GCSE Higher and AS Level.
Both qualifications cover content beyond GCSE Maths including algebra (factor theorem, algebraic proof), coordinate geometry, calculus (differentiation and integration), trigonometry, and matrices/transformations. They provide excellent preparation for A Level Maths by introducing key topics early.
Resources for these qualifications are more limited than for standard GCSE Maths, making this guide especially useful. Every resource below has been checked for current availability and relevance. You can also browse past papers for both qualifications in our library.
